So I'm doing the Couch to 5k training program. It's a 9-week program that gradually builds up the amount of time you run each week. Week 1 I alternated between running for 60 seconds and walking for 90 seconds for a total of 20 minutes with a warmup and cooldown walk of 5 minutes. I'm on week 7 where I'm jogging for 25 minutes all at once with the warmup and cooldown walks. Next week I'll be up to 28 minutes and on the last week I'll be up to 30 minutes.
I think one way to keep me going is to register in 5k or 2-mile races. I don't know why that would motivate me to exercise when I have plenty of other reasons but nothing else has really worked yet.
